Knowing your worth

This is spawned from a conversation i recently had with a good friend.

To be insecure in a relationship or even a job is in my opinion a fault in one's self image. On a site like tumblr or the internet in general it's blatantly obvious to most that some are prettier than many. Also, in the job place there are those who are smarter or faster. What we have to keep in mind is our credentials.

I've been working at my current position more or less for about four years and I will never forget my interview. The first things out of my at the time would be supervisor's mouth was "your resume got you the interview, who you are will get the job".

Looks and superficial characteristics are the soup and salad of the meal, it's what draws the attention, your depth is the meat and potatoes. Your looks and the looks of others(who we all compare ourselves to) are things we need to pull away from. It is fact that there are better looking people out there, and it is a fact that looks fade. Therefore, placing your security or even judging how secure you are is in effect putting your chips on an ever diminishing resource. Your depth, personality, and skills however, grow and blossom with age.

You may not be as pretty as her but your personality and brains piss acid on her whole existence.
